Current Goal

Warthog is a spunky little thing. He enoys all kinds of activity, but especially military events, bases, etc.

About This Item

Tank Killer

The A10 was built to stop an expected flood of Russian tanks, should NATO ever go to war with the Soviet Bloc. I was a laser targeting (Sensor Systems) tech on the initial A10 Cadre as we deployed to bases in England, so this little guy holds some sentimental history for me.

After the Soviet threat dissolved, the A10 was threatened with extinction as military programs and bases went under the post-cold war budget chopping block. Fortunately, the bean counters hadn't completely axed the program when Desert Storm began, and the Iraqi's quickly learned how deadly a pissed-off Warthog can be.

This 'Hog was made with Ground Support in mind, and he would enjoy meeting as many current and former Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines as possible. Please help him on his goodwill tour - and please post pictures of the adventures you take him on. He's not pretty, but he's a ham when the cameras come out!

Found this TB and will place it in one of my caches near the Strategic Air Command (SAC) Museum on I-80 between Lincoln and Omaha NE. I don't have a digital camera to take a picture the warthog doing a fly-by in the SAC parking lot. Very nice TB with good tags.

The Hog is now in Nebraska, home of SAC and Offut Air Force Base. He will have to wait until the snow melts a bit but I will try to place him in the Omaha area near Offut.

Went to Patriot's Point today. A-10 landed on the deck of the U.S.S. Yorktown!! He's unofficially the first A-10 to trap on an aircraft carrier! Ha Ha! He didn't even need a tailhook or a wire, either!!

  • Look at that textbook landing! A-10 Lands on the deck of the U.S.S. Yorktown (CV-10) Dec. 23rd, 2003!

  • Apollo 8 hook and A-10. When Apollo 8 was retrieved from the sea, the Yorktown was tasked to do it! This is the actual hook that raised it from the sea to the flight deck!!
  • Apollo 8 display. A replica of Apollo 8 on board the Yorktown.
