After a scenic drive and a hike, I wanted to cap off our first day in Mammoth Lakes with a stop at the visitor center before they closed, but first mdawaffe and I swung by this nearby hide. Except for the cars driving past, the immediate area was muggle-free, and after checking several wrong spots as we debated whose right or left, mdawaffe noticed the container. Thanks!

It was our first visit to Mammoth Lakes, and the week after Labor Day meant crowd levels were low, so we were easily able to park at the trailhead for our hike through parts of the tree kill area to McLeod Lake. Afterward, mdawaffe, jstupid, and I took in the view of Horseshoe Lake from the posted coordinates, and since it was pretty windy today, there likely wasn't too much buildup of CO2, and our observations have been sent. Thanks for highlighting the geologic processes beneath our feet, and thanks for the find.

After our hike to McLeod Lake, mdawaffe, jstupid, and I wandered over to this nearby hide before returning to the car. We each found a likely place to search, but mdawaffe ended up checking the right spot to make the find. Thanks for the fun on our first day of a week in Mammoth Lakes!

It was our first day in Mammoth Lakes, and after a scenic drive around the Lakes Basin area with IdanoMom and Dr.LP in the morning, mdawaffe, jstupid, and I returned in the afternoon for a hike to McLeod Lake. Such a beautiful area! Parking was easy after Labor Day, and we enjoyed the short walk under sunny skies to the windy shores. Once we got close, we had no trouble with the find, and thanks for the cache as we get acclimated to the higher altitude of the area.

Whenever we mentioned that we were spending a week in Mammoth Lakes to geocachers from home, everyone immediately replied, "Oh, it's beautiful. And don't forget the webcams!" So I made sure to scope them out ahead of time, and here we are, on our first full day in the area, reporting in from the mammoth statue. mdawaffe, jstupid, and I came by the Adventure Center to pick up some Devils Postpile shuttle tickets, and we appreciated the lack of crowds after Labor Day. It's definitely hard to imagine all the winter snow this time of year, though! I had fun grabbing a few more photos throughout the week, including one from the Main Lodge webcam at the very edge of the closed-for-the-season area from a trail on the east side of the Lodge, and it's great that these webcams have been maintained and updated for decades. Thanks so much for the smiley!

It's my first visit to Mammoth Lakes, and this was a great way to get acquainted with the area. Crowds were low and the weather was lovely, and mdawaffe and I enjoyed learning about each of the highlighted stops. Thanks so much for the wonderful tour around town!

This Virtual sparked my interest while looking at the map before a family vacation in Mammoth Lakes, and after a decent amount of homework, I realized the best spot to view the dragon would be on our drive north into town. I was a bit surprised at how visible the Hidden Dragon still is decades later! The sun played peek-a-boo with the clouds overhead, creating fast-moving shadows over the hills, and mdawaffe and I enjoyed a vantage point directly north of the guardian, about 3 miles southeast of the posted coordinates. Thanks for the find!

Between road construction and accidents bringing southbound traffic to a standstill near Bishop at the end of the holiday weekend, mdawaffe and I were happy to be traveling north instead, even if it meant this was on the wrong side of the road. Luckily traffic wasn't backed up here, so we had no troubles reaching GZ for a quick find. I've had the puzzle solved since a trip to the area to hike Mount Whitney in 2012, so it was nice to finally get my name on the log. Thanks for the series and the find!

Found Gateway to Bristlecone and Veterans Memorial Location - US 395 Adventure Lab (Fish Springs - Bishop) Adventure Lab Cache
( # 00000 )
mdawaffe and I were heading up to Mammoth Lakes for a week with family, and stopping at caches, adventure labs, and bakeries broke up the drive nicely. From the geology of red rocks, black basalt, and lava falls to the history of early travelers, we enjoyed the drive and got a great view of Mount Whitney on the way through Lone Pine. Modern air-conditioning was much appreciated in the midday heat, and we're definitely looking forward to the cooler weather in the mountains. Thanks for enlivening the journey!

Stopping at caches and bakeries broke up our drive to Mammoth Lakes, and this was a quick and easy puzzle. Unfortunately, the combination of strong winds and a distant forest fire created a smoky search, but mdawaffe and I appreciated the chance to stretch our legs, and we still got a great view of Mount Whitney on the way through Lone Pine. Thanks for the history and the find.
