We will keep this precious coin with us for now, but we plan to make it a resident coin in its home cache when we manage to visit.
Many thanks to Amberel for awarding us this Top Cache geocoin, for our Opencaching resurrection of an ancient Groundspeak cache. Hell Bay OK037C
https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC1B1D_hell-bay was hidden in August 2001 and unecessarily archived, when a bit damp, in 2015. We decided to keep the cache going on Opencaching due to its age and the fantastic location. The cache looks out over the Atlantic, with nothing between Hell Bay and the American coast.
On July 27th, 1879, the British iron barque MAIPU, built in 1865 by Laird John, Son & Co. (Laird Bros.) and owned at the time of her loss by Hall, Worthington & Co., on voyage from Iquique to English Channel with a cargo of 840 tons of salpetre, was lost after running aground on the west coast of Isles of Scilly. There were no casualties. https://www.wrecksite.eu/wreck.aspx?1760
Contrary to what I had thought, this is the "Only known wreck in Hell Bay and the first to be attended by the Czar gig. http://scillypedia.co.uk/ShipwreckListing.htm
