"Grandpa’s Bus #1" is a memorial to my father who recently passed away. Dad loved to travel in his RV and we’d love to see this travel bug travel as far and wide as possible in his honor. Please keep this bug moving so we can get many years of enjoyment out of watching "Grandpa’s Bus" travel the country and possibly the world.
Some suggested travel destinations/photo ops based on events in Dad’s life include:
• Los Angeles, CA
• Okinawa, Japan
• Salt Lake City, UT
• Broken Arrow, OK
• Jacksonville, FL
• Denmark
• Route 66
• Mormon Church historical areas (Nauvoo, IL, etc.)
• Mormon Temples (Manti, UT in particular)
If your father or grandfather has passed away, we ask that you take a moment and remember something good about him that makes you smile. If he is still alive, now would be an excellent opportunity to talk to him, call him, or email him just to say Hi and to tell him that you love him.
This travel bug is one of a group of three bugs that were released as a memorial to my father who passed away on January 30th, 2009. Dad was retired and loved to travel among many other hobbies. So needless to say he was an RV fan and loved packing up a month or two worth of supplies, grabbing Mom by the hand, and taking off in the motor home. The grandchildren affectionately referred to the motor home as "Grandpa’s Bus" so the name stuck, and thus became the name for this set of travel bugs.
For maximum exposure and redundancy (in case one gets lost) we decided to release 3 bugs. After some discussion we decided on releasing them from three different locations, each with a special meaning to Dad. "Grandpa’s Bus #1" was released in Los Angeles, CA, Dad’s place of birth. "Grandpa’s Bus #2" was released in Broken Arrow, OK, where Dad spent the last 24 years of his life and his final resting place. "Grandpa’s Bus #3" was released in Jacksonville, FL, home town of my oldest brother (geoJimi) and a place Mom, Dad, and the motor home visited often.

My kids were excited when I mentioned the possibility of a travel bug in Grandpa’s honor, and the reassurance from my mother and oldest brother sealed the deal. We all hope to track "Grandpa’s Buses" as they travel around the country and possibly around the world. We’ll be keeping a close eye on them, and I’m sure Grandpa will be too. We all love to read your comments, so please post a little more than just “found it” in the log. Also, please feel free to email me any additional comments, updates, or photos of "Grandpa’s Bus", or just to say hi.
*** Please post pictures in your log entry if you can. We love to see them. DO NOT post pictures showing the travel bug ID number. ***
Thank you for your traveling assistance, and happy caching to you and your family.

DevilDog,
I doubt you're aware, as I never mentioned it on the TB page, but Grandpa was a proud Marine himself. Hence Okinawa being on the list of possible travel destinations. My father was stationed there for much of his military career and he told many stories about his adventures there. Thank you for honoring him and taking the TB to Okinawa with you. I hope you get a chance to post some pictures, that would be really cool.
