To accompany Willy and Mary on their 2012 Appalachian Trail Hike. It'll be dipped into caches, and discovered by fellow cachers along the way.
This geocoin celebrates the Appalachian Trail which runs between Springer Mountain in Georgia, and Mt. Katahdin in Maine. The AT was completed in 1937, and is one of the longest continuously marked footpaths in the world, measuring roughly 2,180 miles in length. The Trail goes through fourteen states along the crests and valleys of the Appalachian mountain range.
Every year, 1,800–2,000 people attempt to “thru-hike” the Trail, and 1 in 4 who attempt it are successfull. We hope to be in the successfull 25%.
