Current Goal

To travel as far North has possible. If I can make it to the North Pole, I'd like to come home to Central California. If not, I'll travel the world trying..

About This Item

The VW Bug

This little bug seems to have a built-in desire to go North. He'll show you the general direction he'd like to travel. If you can take him to magnetic North, why not continue on to geographic North as well?

Please take pics with the bug and send them our way. We'd love to see some snow & ice!

Grab It (Not from a Cache) 6/27/2008 ap-alexander grabbed it   Visit Log

I got this travel bug from sillysalmon because I was going on a trip to the Northwest Terrotories. Unfortunately, the trip never, and I've had the bug for awhile now.

It's current location is 49.21827 N, 122.90525 W

I will drop it in cache, or if you are going north, message me and I can give it to you, so it can continue its journey to the North Pole.

  • Proof that the travel bug exists!
Retrieve It from a Cache 10/9/2006 Sillysalmon retrieved it from Stump with a View British Columbia, Canada   Visit Log

This is the first travel bug we've found! We were staying at Tyax, and went to find the "Stump with a View" cache while we were there. Unfortunately, when we got close to the cache location, we saw that the cache had been ripped apart by a bear (the lid was still on and there was a big hole in the container)! The contents of the cache were littered around a 10 foot radius, and had obviously been exposed to "the elements" for awhile. Almost everything had teeth marks, or had been chomped right through!

The only thing left inside the cache was a piece of paper and this VW Bug! He survived the bear attack! Even though he survived, he was still exposed to the wet and cold, and now has a big crack in him! The compass has warped and it doesn't always locate North anymore.

We resuced him from the cache and brought him back to Port Coquitlam, British Columbia (near Vancouver). Even though it is South of his previous location, it is the only chance for his survival. He's not complaining, because he got to go to his first ever Canadian Thanksgiving dinner tonight!

In the next few weeks we hope to brainstorm a good location to place him.

We'll send another update then.

  • Survived the Bear Attack!
  • My First Canadian Thanksgiving!

VW Bug spent a few weeks in Seattle before traveling north to Canada. We camped at Tyax, which is in the middle of nowhere. No cell phone service anywhere around for hours. And the land-line was intermittent. VW Bug had fun doing all the activities: canoeing, horseback riding, hiking, etc. He'll spend a very long winter in the snow and ice.

Found this guy going east and west all day long and definitely not north. Grabbed him to give him a ride north to the Seattle area and will place him in a cache there.
