Geocache Description:

Little known historic site with great views on a nice day.

Known by the locals as Red Hill because of the red colour of the soil, this area was once a well-defended Pa site with running water and Kamura pits. Remains of the pits and defence trenches can still be easily seen.

Fantastic views of the Manukau and Waitamata Harbours are available just above the cache site. Please keep to the tracks and mown areas. Steep cliffs in the area if you wonder to far off the tracks.

Park at S 37° 04.146 E 174° 58.887 and read the legend of why the soil is red.

Walk along the formed track. The track is under bush at the bottom of a steep cliff and can become muddy after heavy rain. Following your GPS should bring you out to a large open area.
