A not to hard to find cache in summer but under snow.... Requires about 1.5km of walking to get to but you will also gain 425 meters height approx on your way up. Be prepaired for weather changes. In winter under snow the terrain could go up to a 4½ or even 5 (The given rating was done by the GC.com rating page)
The Bluff located in the alpine national park is one of the victorian high countrys "great views" and given a clear day you can see "forever". On the day the cache was planted there was a little snow left and we went sliding down the south face. I was there the week before and snow was falling and there were iceicals like chandeliers hanging from the rocks on the way up.
In summer conditions you can expect a 1 - 1½ walk up and the same back. Winter - you had better be experienced.
Access is from the car park at S37°13.675' E146°28.851'. There is a good 2WD road to this location (from sheep yard flat) but it is best done in a nonlowered car with normal profile tyres. In winter take due care in snow with your car. This road is NOT closed for winter but will be subject to heavy snow.
If you get to the cache and get fogged in the path back down starts at S37°14.049' E146°29.265 it is highly wise to use it as there are cliffs in the area. A foot track also comes across from Bluff Hut - it's longer but not as steep. The hut road is rated 4WD and is closed in winter.
The cache is a 3.5 Litre ammo box with swaps that replaced the original 1 Litre "Sistema" Box .
PLEASE NO LIQUID SWAPS - THEY MAY BURST WHEN FROZEN
There is plastic box at the summit cairn - that is NOT the cache. Enjoy and post photos freely!
