After seeing the symbol of Miyajima, the O-torii Gate of Itsukushima Shrine, let's take a short detour to the hill.
ここ塔の丘には、ともに国の重要文化財に指定されている、天正15年（1587年）豊臣秀吉が安国寺恵瓊に建立を命じた重厚な「千畳閣」と、応永14年（1407年）に建立された優美な「五重塔」が揃い踏みしています。
Here, on the hill of pagodas, you will find the stately “Senjo-kaku,” which is designated as a national important cultural property and was ordered to be built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1587, and the graceful “five-story pagoda,” which was erected in 1407.
特に「千畳閣」は島内では最も大きな木造建築物で、秀吉の急死によって工事が中止されたため、未完成の大聖堂（経堂）として唯一無二な存在感を放っています。
The “Senjo-kaku” in particular is the largest wooden structure on the island, and is unique as an unfinished cathedral because construction was halted after Hideyoshi's sudden death.
