So many historic Country pubs have closed over the years hopefully one day they can be brought back again and continue to service the comunity and tourists of the area.
The original pub was operated here out of a galvanised iron building and it is unknown these days who set it up and run this original business. The Present Stone structure was built in 1886 & The First Licensee in the new stone Building was Mr. J. S. Sharplers Senior,. The water that was used to construct the building had to be carted from the well at Tickera.
It was located about 100 yards from the Kadina and Broughton, and Wallaroo and Alford main roads. Alford was the centre of the Hundred of Tickera. Meals, refreshments, and stabling for horses were provided daily. The hotel consisted of 11 rooms, 5 were bedrooms, 3 were always ready for the public, and there were other rooms which could be used for bedrooms in cases of emergency. Two mail coaches to and from Port Broughton, and three to and from Tickera, called there every week. There was no other place at which travellers could obtain refreshments in the town.
The hotel finally closed around December 2017 after 130+ years in the community. It's now a private residence that has plenty of stories to tell.
