In August 2020 work began on the new 63km trail extension to the Clutha Gold Trail, it is designed for cyclists and would follow a "grade 2 easy" route providing riders with "variety and interest", between Lawrence and Waihola.
The trail already runs for 73km from Lawrence to Roxburgh (also at grade 2), where it joins a further trail network extending into Central Otago.
The trust estimated eventual use of the extension could be as high as 15,000 riders a year and it is due to open 2022.
I have been looking at the new sections of trails as they have been constructed and thinking these need some geocaches.
There are a couple of seats to relax on and it looks like there will be a plaque added to the large rock between them.
You only need to move one hand size rock to get this cache.
Whilst there was a pencil placed in container at time of placement, they have a tendancy to go missing, so please remember to bring your own.
