In 2019 I got a message from the W.E.K.A's asking me if I had heard of LíB's OTD series in S. Austrailia and what OTD stood for?... I had no idea and after some research we had found out that it was a series called On This Day (OTD) with a story for each day of the year. Well that sounded like a crazy fun challenge and so the call went out to the Otago and Southland Geocachers to parttake in this series. You'll see in the description that the owners will write in either some muggle, geocaching or personnal facts/stories related to this day.
On this day.... 1 January
January is the first month of the year in our modern day Gregorian calendar, and its predecessor the Julian calendar. January is named after the Roman god of doors, Janus, because this month is the door to the year. Janus represents all beginnings and possesses the ability to see all things past and future. I guess that ties in with the New Year's Day tradition to open the front door to let in the new year and the back door to kick out last year.
For many 1 January is seen in at midnight with fireworks and a party, which I do enjoy but for the last several years I have enjoyed getting up in the morning and welcoming the first light of the new year. Today I hosted my 5th Geocaching Event to watch the sunrise on the 1 January and whilst we couldn't see the sun due to the clouds it was still a great way to start the year.
Please feel free to include in your logs any stories you have regarding today's date and if you are an Otago and Southland Geocacher intrested in the series send me a message.
