Geocache Description:

DO NOT go outside the fence. It is not required to find this Geocache.

A beacon for human achievement in a wild and beautiful place.

Table Cape Lighthouse is 5km from Wynyard and it was built on the remnant volcanic feeder plug formed 13.3 million years ago and eroded over time to leave the rich fertile soils surrounding the lighthouse. Table Cape Lighthouse was designed by Huckson and Hutchison of Hobart. The foundations were built in Devenport and the upper part containing the landing and light built in England.

The original cost for erecting the lighthouse was 4,240 pounds and was first lit on 1st of August 1888.

There are 70 steps to the lantern room, which can be seen on daily tours run out of the lighthouse.

Today the light house is operated by a 100 Watt globe and continues to provide an aid to safe navigation for ships.
