Aboriginal women from Tasmania and Fleurieu Peninsula played an important role in the pre-colonisation history of Kangaroo Island. They served as companions to the white men in a society where there were no other females for thousands of miles. The native women were also expert hunters. Most of the long term pre-1836 residents had black 'wives'.
This memorial will tell of one such settler who arrived in 1827. He established a fine home and farm at Antechamber Bay and their descendants still live on the Island today.
