Geocache Description:

This cache is dedicated to Tara, our geodog.

TARA - the locality

The Department of Lands granted 10 acres of land for public recreation here at Tara on the 10th August 1910. On this land, the local community established a community hall, football ground, cricket pitch and tennis courts. Nearby, a local school operated from 1912 to 1949.

Located beside the new main road is the hall, which was opened in 1914 and is still standing - JUST! The roof is collapsing, so DO NOT ENTER!

The cache is located along the original main road passed this area. Near the cache site you can see a stone and concrete construction designed to reduce the impact of water erosion on the road. Judging by the creek downstream, it seems to be very successful.
