Geocache Description:

Users are able to join or leave the trail in many locations.” See attached link.

Map of Section 3 - Northern Border Campsite to Hall

This part of the trail begins at the Northern Border Campsite in Forde and follows the ACT/NSW Border, past One tree hill to Hall Village.

One Tree Hill has a special significance for the surveyors, past and present, who have helped to shape our National Capital. It played a vital role in the first surveys of the Canberra area; by Robert Dixon in 1829 and Robert Hoddle in 1832. Dixon and Hoddle were sent from Sydney to survey the first land grants in the Canberra region. They used One Tree Hill as a high point from which to review the area and a landmark from which they could get their bearings.

This section of the Canberra Centenary Trail is 13 kilometres long and is rated as a 5 hour walk or 1.5 hour ride. Unlike other areas of the Centenary Trail, this section can not be easily accessed at various points. The areas surrounding the trail corridor are private property and trespassers will be prosecuted. The trail is easy for a mountain bike ride or a pleasant walk/run.

As with all outdoor and bush activities, take plenty of water, and a spare battery for the GPS. Summer in the bush within the ACT does have an abundance of wildlife, including various reptiles. When this series was laid, our biggest concern was to avoid spraining an ankle in the many wombat holes however in the warmer months, snakes will be active in the area. Stick to the formed tracks of the trail and remain observant.
