Legend has it that it was named for the number of bends in the road and another legend is it took the stage coach 309 minutes to make the journey. Whichever theory seems plausible, it is still an interesting journey along this road.
So put yourself in the saddle or in the stage coach frame of mind to begin your journey exploring along the 309 Road.
We are sure your horse or carriage will be much more comfortable than yesteryear.
Please make sure you pull off the road safely, as this can be a busy road at certain times of the year and speed freaks can be about when least expected. Most placements are on the left hand side from the Whitianga End, however toward Coromandel Town some are on the right hand side, with plenty of space to pull off.
Hope you enjoy the mail stops on this journey and are able to gather up all the mail (caches).
