Don't let the title deceive you, this isn't a Geocache about Bashing Bush Turkeys, but more about a bit of a bush bash with bush turkeys about.
Brush Turkeys (a little bit about them)
The Australian brush turkey, (Alectura Lathami), is a native Australian bird and is protected under State Wildlife Legislation (Nature Conservation Act 1992). It is a serious offence to harm brush turkeys. They are also frequently called the scrub turkey or bush turkey.
The brush turkey plays an important role in natural pest management. They prey on insects and grubs in woodland habitats and suburban gardens. They also help disperse native vegetation seeds through their faeces.
This is the first Geocache that we've hidden, so hopefully we get things right. Our grandparents property looks out onto Banks Street Reserve and our kids are always fascinated by the Bush Turkeys.
The paths in this park are a little tricky and there are some steep sections. Very tricky if it's wet! Not for wheelchairs and kids under 6 will probably need some assistance. You'll probably want to park on Weatherhead Ave and walk along the Reserve Trail and then use some of the side trails to get close. You'll be walking about 500 metres or less. There are 5 Geocaches in the Bush Turkey Bash series. Worthwhile having a glance at number 5 first.
The Geocache is a small water tight tube, about 6cm longs. BYO pen. It's a short way off the path, so please be careful in regards to snakes and other critters.
