Geocache Description:

This is a tribute to the volunteer fire fighters that will turn out from this station all hours of the day and night, to keep the residents of Mt Helen- and indeed Ballarat and it's outlying areas- safer.

The new Mt Helen Fire Station arose out of a need for a station closer to Mt Helen, Federation University and the fast growing Technology Park and to cover future residential growth in the area. It is a new Fire Station, not a new fire brigade, and is a 1B- 1-L type station with two bays for appliances and basic facilities.

It is part of the Eureka Group of Fire Brigades which is made up of Ballarat, Ballarat City (Career and volunteers), Buninyong, Sebastopol and Wendouree. Volunteers from Ballarat and Buninyong brigades living in the area will turn out the trucks. They will train and maintain their skills through their own brigade and new members will also be signed up. A Committee of Management made up of Ballarat and Buninyong members will manage the day to day activities of the station.

My Triple Zero series highlights the work done by the various Emergency Services in Victoria.

In keeping with the cache theme , you are welcome to take Emergency Service items from this cache. If you do not have an Emergency Service swap of some sort PLEASE LEAVE NOTHING.

The station is still in the building stage, but is not far off completion. Be mindful of where you park at this location as it is a busy road and emergency vehicles will leave here Code 1 (lights & sirens) at various times of the day and night. Because of this my Triple Zero series of caches have a higher difficulty rating than others.
