The present St. James’ Church was built in 1911 of local sandstone replacing the original church (1861). Locals James Hicks, David Jordan and William Armitage were the architect, builder and mason respectively. Surrounding the church were the convent (1933) and the original school (part of which dates from 1880s) The Presbytery in Sowerby Street was built as a private residence for Martin Rasmussen in 1896. The former convent building now houses the Upper Hunter Conservatorium of Music.
Happy Caching.
