Geocache Description:

Possibly a quick park and grab on Gibson Quay in Hokitika

On this site October 1st 1864 John Hudson and James Price opened Hokitika's first store, a 12 x 20 feet building of saplings and calico. The gold rushes soon followed and Hudson and Price were ideally situated to cash in on the influx of diggers. Price later returned to England but Hudson remained to watch the emergence of the town he had founded.
