The cache is approx 150m walk down a gravel road and then up a short climb. It is at the start of the schools gully.
Note: due to the circuit path no longer being maintained the cache is now relocated to the sign.
This is an interesting area. It is named after the family who originally owned the farm. It is on a cliff above the Tasman Sea. There are two lakes. One is easier to visit than the other. Migrating birds often use these lakes to pause en route. A 10 minute walk takes you to the first lake. Here there is a memorial to Fonterra staff with a clear view to the site. Fonterra is the largest dairy factory in the Southern Hemisphere. Mt Taranaki will be visible on a fine day. Return the same way.
Before the lake is a lovely 2.5 hectare gully where many trees and plants have been planted by local school children. Each school has their own area to maintain. Additional features include bird nesting boxes, monarch butterfly swan plants, herb garden, native medicinal plants and in the stream freshwater crayfish may be sighted by the patient. Walk the circuit. There is a picnic table. Local school children are taking an interest in this cache.
The cache is a 1 litre clip-it container. Park at the gate and walk 100m down the gravel road. Rest on the Mokoia School seat before a short climb to the cache which is on your left.
