As a result I am archiving this cache to keep from continually showing up in search lists and to also prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

If you wish to repair/replace/make available the cache sometime in the next 28 days, just contact a reviewer (by email and include GC number in cache name) and, assuming it still meets the current guidelines, the reviewer will be happy to unarchive it.

If there are components or remnants of the cache and you haven't already done so, please return to the GZ and collect the cache (or remnants). We don't want to litter our environment with Geotrash.

Should you wish to replace the cache after 28 days has passed please create a new cache listing so it can be reviewed as a new cache.

HISTORY
The Boy's scouts began in 1908 and by the end of the following year a troop had been founded in Dandenog.
Ted Swords, the first scout master formed the Armytage Own 1st Dandenong scout group in March 1928. The name of the troop is a tribute to Ada Armytage of Como, South Yarra and Holm park, Beaconsfield (her lodge or country house) who were the groups benefactress. Ada Armytage supported the scouting movement, providing the Dandenong troop with financial assistance and a permanent camping ground on her Beaconsfield property.
In 1930 the scout hall was built, largely funded by a donation from Ada Armytage. The facade designed with a mix of gothic and medieval elements, was designed by architect Ivan Dimant and influenced by Ada Armytage home in Portsea. On July in the same year a ball was held to mark it's compleation that was attended by dignitaries including the Governor of Victoria and Sir John Monash.
On January 1935 the unveiling of the foundation stone occurred coinciding with the World Jamboree.
During World War 11 the scout hall and park was utilised by the American Armed Forces as a Military hospital base associated with their encampment at Rowville.
During the post war years, the hall was used by Dandenong High School and the community for dances, meetings and exhibitions. Up until 2004 the scouts continued to occupy the hall and use it for prop storage and set production.
In 2005 the city of Greater Dandenong re-developed the hall into a venue with focus on music and youth.
