This is one of a
series of caches on the Gabriel's Gully walking
track.
A well formed and
maintained loop track traverses around a large part of the historic
gold field. Allow at least 90 minutes to complete the loop track
and gather the 6 caches on route.
After much of the easier
alluvial gold was won, the miners adopted a number of large schemes
to reach the gold. Almost as precious as the gold was water which
was used extensively to sluice away the overburden or to power the
hydraulic lift equipment employed. Water was drawn from a large
area from as far away as 50km via an extensive network of some 870
km of water races and stored in dams like Polland's
dam.
The cache is a 400ml sistema
complete with log and pencil and can be reached after a short
diversion from the main track.
