Geocache Description:

Kamesburgh was built in 1874, for William Kerr Thomson and is surrounded by 10 acres (in the old language) of beautiful gardens. In 1918 the Commonwealth Government purchased the property and turned it in to hostel for incapacitated ex-servicemen. Anzac Hostel was proclaimed in June 1919. Brighton Red Cross built the Day Centre and since has provided care and comfort for the veterans.

In 1996 Bayside City Council acquired the property from the Department of Veteran Affairs. This gracious old home has been leased to Star of the Sea College, which is required to maintain the building to heritage standards, and nurture the gardens back to their former glory.

The gardens are open to the public. Weekends are very popular for weddings, so choose your timing well. Dog walkers and locals also use the park. Be careful of the gardens, plants do not have to be hurt.Be careful of the gardens, plants do not have to be hurt.
