You have a choice of access to reach this cache. You can make the decision yourself.




The given co-ordinates will take you to a now horizontal rusty relic that was left over from an earlier attempt to limit the erosion of the foredune. It is at the back of the fill behind the seawall and there is no need to disturb any of the foredune. This area is at the southern end of the seawall that runs from the stream mouth at Raumati Beach. The seawall was the response to a major storm in 1976 which threatened many residences along this stretch of coast.



The problem with seawalls is that the wave action doesn’t get an opportunity to dissipate its energy until it reaches the end of the wall. The area just south of the cache has had to have a considerable amount of rock revetment placed to limit further damage.

If there is a storm in progress avoid doing the cache (see photo).



Take care retrieving the cache as the rusty relic may have sharp bits for careless grapplers.The cache is placed under the relic just south of the rusty hole.
