Unarchive a geocache

Archiving a geocache is meant to be a permanent action. Only community volunteer reviewers and Geocaching HQ can unarchive caches. This is done only in rare circumstances and only if the cache meets the current geocaching guidelines.

If a cache is archived by a reviewer or staff for lack of maintenance, it will not be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

Peet's Broken Hearth

A camouflaged cache at a local relic

You are looking for a heavily camouflaged canister about 95mm long and 35mm in diameter. It was originally one of those tiny energy shot drink bottles but after 2 days work it's morphed into something quite different. It's pretty much in plain sight if you know what you're looking for but should be camouflaged enough that muggles won't notice it.

A few things to note:

  • Please dont park on Peet Rd
As a resident myself, Peet Road is one of the arteries of Roleystone and it can be quite dangerous for cars to have to overtake a parked car on such a hill. Alternatively, park on the verge of Mackie Road, it's plenty close and cars can safely go around you there.
  • Take care replacing the log book
The cannister has an inside lip that could potentially cause the log book to get stuck. If this happens you might need tweezers (if this is the case, leave a note and I will sort it out). To prevent this from happening I have placed a band around the scroll which will keep it from expanding too far - When returning the log to the cache wrap it around the pencil first then put the band over it. Make sure the log has expanded enough that the band won't fall off inside the cache.
  • Lastly, Best not to visit this one at night
While technically is is available 24/7, torchlight in the dark might cause undue alarm for nearby residents. I'd feel terrible if one of my caches was responsible for a disturbance.

If you get stuck I have included a hint, but see if you can find it without using it first eh?

Happy hunting

Congrats to gardengorilla for being FTF.

Update about the hearth: since placing the cache I have been advised that the fireplace is directly related to the construction of the nearby Canning Contour Channel which was constructed between July 1935 and December 1936 and supplied drinking water to the metropolitan area of Perth from 1940 to 1975. I don't know the details but I believe it was a campsite/hut for the construction crews.
