Geocache Description:

MONSTER MAW

[Please Note: In each of the first four caches in this series you will find a clue that will contribute to the solving of the puzzle in Mountains Murder Mystery #5. Please ensure you record these clues before leaving the cache. You need to log a visit to each of the first four caches before claiming a find for the fifth cache]

Since Janus Seamley hanged himself in his cell two weeks ago, police have been unable to make headway in their new investigations as to the whereabouts of Sally Ann Winters' body. The investigation was reopened after the discovery of a picture in Seamley's cell which purportedly gives clues to the whereabouts of Sally Ann's body. The picture can be found in the notes entitled "Mountains Murder Mystery # 5" on this website. Apart from the picture, four coordinates were also found on a note laying on Seamley's cell bed. Police have neither found Winters' body or any further clues at these locations as to the meaning of the picture. The coordinates listed at the head of these notes are the first of those four coordinates found on the bed. The other three coordinates can be found under the pages listed as "Mountains Murder Mystery # 2","Mountains Murder Mystery # 3" and "Mountains Murder Mystery #4".

Police hope that in publishing this information a member of the public might discover something further and come forward. If you think you are able to help, you may wish to investigate the areas suggested by these coordinates, as the areas are no longer deemed scenes of investigation and are once again open to the public.

If this is your intention, it is suggested you read the case notes from "Mountains Murder Mystery #5" before you proceed.

A note by Bikerbuddy

Since the reopening of these investigations I have been banned by the police from seeking out the clues Janus Seamley left behind. I knew Janus and his girlfriend, Sally Ann Winters at university, and police say Seamley implicated me in her murder not long before his suicide. I have been told that any attempt to approach the locations will be seen as an attempt to tamper with potential evidence and I could be arrested. For that reason I will pass on any information I have or can guess at regarding each of these locations to you.

This first location seems significant to me since Janus met Sally Ann there while doing athletics during his second year of university. Sally Ann and Janus both had a passionate interest in geology, and for a time the area behind Hunter Park became a favourite spot for both of them to explore the rocks and, I guess, to get better acquainted. One of Seamley's favourite photographs of Sally Ann was taken in the area with her sitting in a rock formation they both referred to as Monster's Maw, like a large mouth, with teeth, I guess. In fact, Seamley wrote a short poem about this photograph:

Sally Ann, in Monsters Maw

You smiled at me.
In Monsters Maw, that great big jaw
You smiled and said you do adore
My handsome face.
And now when I look upon you once more
In Monsters Maw, it's you I adore.
When I see you in Monsters Maw,
I want you more.

As you can see, Janus had a genius for this sort of thing, and it is little wonder, given his superior gifts, that he held many people in contempt. I hope these notes are of some help for you to solve this mystery, and I do encourage you to report any attempt you make to find Seamley's first clue, on this website
