Another interesting spot with a great deal of history to stop and have a look around along the Barkly Hwy. It would be useful and handy to grab a copy of 'Cloncurry Trails' if you intend to have a good look around the area from Mount Isa to Cloncurry.
This Journey takes you to the abandoned town of Mary Kathleen . The town that once served the nearby Uranium Mine. While here you might as well go through to the mine site and grab the other cache in the area 'Blue Waters'.
The town was inhabited between 1956 to 1963 where it went into mothballs until 1974 when the mine re-opened. It thrived with a population over 2000 until 1983 when the mine was once again closed. The entire infastructure including all the houses went to public auction on the 11th April 1983 and the town was no more!
