Geocache Description:

Another waterfall to discover in the Castra Rivulet area.

This waterfall is very pretty and once had a maintained access path constructed from the road to the falls. It is well worth a visit especially after rain but the terrain becomes exceptionally slippery then. There was a large amount of water fauna in the creek, with the CEyres seeing a number of small crustaceans near the rocks in the small pools between trickling water falls.

The falls drop about 40 m in three largish steps hence the trek/slip to the bottom is worthwhile. The path however now has become overgrown with several fallen trees blocking the way hence the difficulty rating. Rain will make the track even slipperier.

Please follow the path carefully instead of blindly following the GPSr arrow as the waterfalls are approached from the top...therefore there are significant drops on the approach and the the scrub is rather thick in places. The path starts from near S41 21.450, E 146 04.957 and the walk is about 180 m long but drops 60 m. The path has no tape, reflectors or arrows to follow, all you have to guide you is a narrow indeterminate pad so be careful and do remember to waypoint your carpark location. Also remember to tell someone responsible before travelling here as the waterfall appears to be infrequently visited and there is no conventional mobile phone reception.

In fact satellite reception is a challenge and the final co-ordinates are the average of ten readings over half an hour, so could finders add their own co-ordinates to the logs. Please avoid trampling through the bush as the cache is within 1 meter of the path and is the typical CEyre PVC pipe model. There will be no need to tear apart rotten logs or overturn rock mounds as the cache hide will be apparent because its location does not look right in the the normal day to day running of bush-life.

This waterfall is one of five in the immediate vicinity that are all worth exploring. Step Falls has an excellent Sirius cache GA0948 there, just drive further east along Gaunt Road.
