In pre-European days, native bush covered the Tawa basin floor and extended to the heights of Colonial Knob to the West and Mt Roberts to the East. Since farming and then later urban development began in the Tawa valley, large numbers of mature Tawa, Totara, Matai and many other tree species have been cleared from the area.
Today there are a few pockets of remnant native bush, including Redwood Bush.
The Cache
Park at the end of Brasenose Place and take the walking track signposted as going to Achilles Pl / Peterhouse St. Where the track forks, keep going straight up the hill (don't turn right). Soon you will emerge into the sunshine at the top of the ridge. Follow the fenceline to the cache.
The container is now a medium sized pill bottle. (Replaced 28/01/2024)
