Soldiers, Pines and Beeburrum – Former World War 1 diggers had no experience on the land but were trained on the state farm, then in a supervised lottery, more that 400 families were leased AB-CD acre farms. Beerburrum State School – the school, built to educate the children of the soldier settler families, recorded in the school register beside the children's names, the broad rural skiills of their parents – farmer, blacksmith, miller, builder, butcher – the backbone of soldier settlement. EF = the number of children who sat in the open-air classroom on the first day. Blood Sweat and Tears – Following World War 1 the soldier settlers needed the North Coast Rail Line for their livelihood. The Beerburrum deviation was moved to the eastern side of the town in 19GH. (It appears this sign has gone - the answer is 21) Settlers and Supplies – Barely five years after the soldier settler scheme had been launched, the once sleepy hamlet was a recognisable township. The Bakehouse is the only original commercial building remaining. It served the community well until it was decommissioned in 19IJ. Hospital on the Hill – The grand Queenslander-style hospital operated for barely K years. Built with high hopes for a vibrant community, it was broken up into sections and taken by road to enlarge the Maleny Soldiers Memorial and Nambour Hospitals, both of which still operate today.
