Geocache Description:

Fancy a walk through Banksia forests and expanses of grass tree shrubbery before resting at a bench to picnic with views over the Rubicon Estuary?

The cache is stored in a dedicated, slightly camouflaged container. The GZ is in an obvious position uphill of the bench.

This picnic bench is an ideal place to rest and see where you have trekked from. The bench has panoramic views of Narawntapu National Park, Rubicon Estuary and the townships of Port Sorrell and Hawley Beach. The drainage work of the swamps in the 1830's by George Hall and the later by Edwin Baker can be easily seen from this vantage point and we were able to watch frequent rain squalls hit Devonport and then move inland leaving us high, dry and sunburnt. Nature lovers will enjoy the walk in Melaleucca and Banksia forests along a well formed and maintained path. The noisy CarrollEyres were able to see many wallabies, wombats and wattle birds during our walk along the direct path. The beach is an alternative route to the Knob though a fair bit longer, but then the wild Bakers beach is well worth the detour, if only see the remains of extra large cuttlefish. It may be possible to walk up from the Point Vision track.

The walk took us an hour from the car park next to the ranger station with the 6 year old legs coping quite well with the 100m climb up from the shore lagoons. The track is well formed and is made of compacted sand. The route is easy to follow with the tracks being well signed and maps are freely available from the office.

Remember this is a National Park, and the cache is in an obvious location for people looking for it. Use the hint so you do not have to flog the vegetation.

Walk requirements include National Parks Pass for your vehicle (though you can walk in from the entrance for free), lots of water (there is no fresh water en route), binoculars, a windproof coat (the GZ is quite exposed to coastal breezes), maps (Port Sorrell Tasmap 1:25000 Number 4644 is quite useful) and sunscreen (we were quite sun/wind burnt on a mid winters day).
