Sittin' on the Dock Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

calumphing_four: After 10 years it is time for this cache to go as it goes missing quite regularly.
Highlights have included having a Naval Ship drop its gang plank over the cache (and a caching sailor making a find), the number of dolphins I've seen here whilst replacing a cache, seeing the new bridge get built and strangely getting a puncture on another cache replacement run here.
Cheers[8D]

Geocache Description:

An easy drive-by, but also a great place to sit in the car and watch all the going ons.

Sittin’ On The Dock

Otis Redding sang:
Sittin' in the mornin' sun
I'll be sittin' when the evenin' come
Watching the ships roll in
And then I watch 'em roll away again, yeah

I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Ooo, I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time

Well this isn’t a bay, but the Port River (Dock #2).

It is however a great spot to sit all day. There are many ships to watch, including the One And All. There is also the new river crossing project to watch too, which an older gent does each day, turning up just after I’d placed the cache. You could also try your luck at fishing.

Up the dock from the cache are two old gentle giants, and (at present) much work on the new rail line that has cut Ocean Steamers Road in half.

Approaching the cache area from Eastern Parade, you may also spot Wind Turbines sitting on a wharf awaiting to be transported to a Wind Farm (perhaps Wattles in the Wind)

Bring a camera and please add to the gallery. Bring a flask, as there is nowhere close-by for a coffee.

The cache is an eclipse container, so unfortunately no room for TBs and Geocoins, but I’m sure they’d enjoy passing through and have their photo taken on the dock. It should be a quick find, so you can then take time to enjoy the surrounds.

Please take care with young ones as there are no railings to prevent them falling into the river. Also take care not to step off the dock when focusing on that little arrow. Otherwise you may end up like this marsupial:

Enjoy

Note: Access is via Ocean Steamers Rd, but you will need to come from the North (access from the Expressway is blocked due to the railway).
