This area overlooks the
Bass River Valley. This is unique, as being the habitat
of the Giant Gippsland Earthworm, Megasolides
australis, which can grow to 4m long and 2cm in diameter.
It lives nowhere else on earth.
When we placed the original
cache in an unnamed little picnic area back in 2004 there were 2
sculptures, a Swaggy and a Magpie. The park has now been
refurbished with more sculptures as well as some information on the
local area. It is now called "Sculpture Park". The Swaggy has
been moved to the opposite end of the park and is now a lot lower
(hence the missing GZ and cache). The Magpie has been removed to a
new location (see
GC199ZZ) The sculptures here reflect the early settlement and
the importance of live stock to our rural economy.
The sculptures were
created from cypress trees that grew on this site, they were
planted by school children around the mid 1930's. Now both the
trees and the school have gone but these sculptures will remain for
many more years.
Unfortunately because
of these renovations the cache has shrunk to a 400mL sistema with
the usual small swaps.
Please ensure the cache is completely covered before
leaving as this park now gets a lot more visitors.
