The above coordinates are those of the car park adjacent to the information centre and toilet block. This car park is the most suitable place to commence your tour. Take time to read the interesting information display about the history of Kaiapoi Island.
The tracks are of a more technical MTB nature (i.e. less developed) than the MTB tracks in the McLeans Island portion of the park and as such will provide cachers with a more challenging workout. The tour is about 8 kms (including return journey) and will take about 1 and ½ hours to complete if on a mountain bike and probably about 3 hours if walking.
You will visit 5 waypoints before reaching the cache. At each of the waypoints you will find a small metal plate listing either
- The decimal corrections to be applied to the current waypoint - the resultant will be the position of the next waypoint, or
- The bearing (True) and distance from the current waypoint to the next waypoint.
Note: Not all the metal plates are of the same type or colour.
Tour: Proceed to WPT1 and note details for WPT2. At WPT2 note details for WPT3. Continue until you find the cache.
CAUTION: Take care at all times when cycling on the public road through the park, particularly whilst proceeding to WPT1.
Cache: The cache is a 1.25 litre camo container containing pencil, logbook and swap items.
Happy caching.
