Did you know Timaru actually had TWO Port Loops?
This cache is placed at the second, less known, of the Port Loops near the site where Le Cren (one of Timaru's founders) established a Landing Service. The goods were landed in Timaru from surf boats until the harbour was completed. The sea would have covered the nearby railwy lines when this site was in operation. View the gallery for an historic photo of the cache site showing where the water was.
All the the buildings here were used as the original "port" including the more famous "Landing Services Building" up the road, housing the Timaru Information Centre and Speights Ale House.
Original cache is now a camouflaged film canister. Initially contained, but no longer room for swaps at this stage:
Logbook and pencil
Bookcrossing book
Kiwi Sightseer TB
BRING YOUR OWN PENCIL
You do not need to enter Railways property to access this cache and it is placed at GROUND level.
