Geocache Description:

Small woodland park at the end of the Sydenham Bypass. Two stage cache close to paths.

When you hear the traffic reports and wonder where Tillysburn is, now is your chance to find out.

Cache site is a small woodland park at Tillysburn. It appears to have once been a pretty place, but is now abandoned and slowly returning to nature. The one reference to it I have found said it was managed by the Woodland Trust, but there is no mention of it on their website.

The description below was taken from the website www.planningni.gov.uk:
“Area of local conservation interest – Area reclaimed from Belfast Lough bisected by a railway line including a planted area managed as a nature reserve by the Woodland Trust and lagoons of nature conservation value”

As this is beside a very busy dual carriageway the best approach is to park in Tesco’s car park at Knocknagoney (Holywood end of the Sydnem bypass). From there exit the car park on foot and go down the hill to the traffic lights. Use the underpass to get to the park entrance. There is some fencing but mostly the park is bounded by rivers, railway lines and roads so please be careful of your loved ones.

The coordinates will take you to a small cache containing the coordinates of the final cache. The whole thing should take less than an hour and on a sunny day offer a pleasant refuge from city life. Neither cache is far from a path, and though a machete is not needed, long trousers may prevent the encroaching vegetation from shredding your legs.
