4.23. Unarchiving a Geocache

The archiving of a geocache is intended to be a permanent status. That is why only community volunteer reviewers and Geocaching HQ staff have the capability to unarchive it. This is done only in rare circumstances and only if it meets the current Geocache Listing Guidelines.

If a geocache is archived by a reviewer or staff for lack of maintenance it will not be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Alexandra Gardens in the Borough of Kew.

Created in 1905 and named after Queen Alexandra, the gardens were opened 8 April 1908 by the Governor, His Excellency Sir Reginald.

The garden is a popular venue for picnics and lunches and caters to many user groups. The picturesque nature of the gardens makes it perfect for many photographic sessions including wedding ceremonies.

Just outside the gardens is a fascinating walking stick sculpture. Within the park you will find a barbecue, a children’s helicopter, a time capsule (not the cache!), 10 brass sculptures and a rotunda.

The gardens are designed in the Federation style typical of the early 1900s. The garden features lawns, large specimen posted trees, sweeping paths, large garden beds, herbaceous borders, an ornamental pond and rotunda. Squire Josh however loves a play on the resident helicopter which he visits often with Baba.

Alexandra Gardens is bordered by Cotham Road, Gellibrand Street and Civic Drive in Kew, covering 1.5 hectares (3.7 acres) of the former King property, "Madford".

Finding the cache:

At the posted coordinates within the park you will find a fountain that was relocated from nearby Kew junction – it was worth a read on all sides.

ABC = Number of dwellings in the borough based on the statistics from the 21st of June 1887

Walking east on the path from the fountain you will reach an intersection of paths. Near the intersection is a plaque about the time capsule.

DEFG = The date the capsule will not be opened before.

You will find GZ at S 37 48.4(A-B-C)A E 145 0(B-1).(F+C)(G+C)(G-1)(F-C)

Despite many samplings at different times I had a lot of problem with EPE (I am interested in feedback), the clue therefore is very detailed if you need it. (thanks for the feedback - I have updated the caculation - but the clue remains unchanged)
There is NO NEED to walk through / in / over any garden beds or in any bushes etc, if in doubt use the clue.

The cache is a small tin initially containing an international coin, a car wash token, $50 and a geocoin. The difficulty rating relates to muggles. BYO Pen.

25-9-2007 Upon reflection I have increased the difficulty slightly to reflect the location now a little harder to get to - adjusted the clue. It also helps to have small fingers....
29 July 2010 Re-enabled after going missing.
