Katedrálny chrám je prvou monumentálnou štýlovo a slohovo cistou sakrálnou stavbou ranného baroka u nás. Tvoril súcast komplexu univerzitných budov. Donátor kostola, palatín Mikuláš Esterházi, zveril výstavbu kostola talianskym majstrom architektom Antóniovi a Pietrovi Spazzovi v roku 1629. Kostol je jednolodový s rovným uzáverom svätyne. Hlavný priestor zaklenujú valené klenby s lunetami, v kaplnkách, po oboch stranách lode sú krížové klenby. Vzácnostou celého interiéru je hlavný mohutný drevený oltár z roku 1640 od B. Knillinga a V. Stadlera. Maliarska a štukatérska výzdoba interiéru kostola je dielom významných talianskych umelcov G.B. Rossa, G.Torniniho a P. Contiho. Cast stropných malieb je od viedenského maliara J.Grubera z obdobia okolo roku 1700. Kostol plnil nielen duchovné poslanie, uskutocnovali sa tu aj významné teologické rozpravy, promócie.
Súradnice vás privedú pred Katedrálu sv. Jána Krstitela v Trnave. Na týchto súradniciach NIE JE schovaná skýša.

The Saint John the Baptist Cathedral is the first clear monumental sacral building of Baroque style in Slovakia. It was the part of the complex of the university buildings. Donator of the church was palatine Mikulas Esterhazi. In the year 1629 he entrusted Italian architects Antonio and Pietro Spazzo with erection of the church. The church consist of one nave with straight enclosing of a sanctum. Tunnel-vaulted nave with lunettes is accompanied by two side chapels with cross vault. In the church interior dominates very precious wooden altar of 1640, constructed by craftsmen from Vienna B. Knilling and V. Stadler. The paintings and stuccoes in the church interior are by renown Italian artists G. B. Rosso, G. Tornini and P. A. Conti. A part of the ceiling paintings is by the Viennese painter J. Gruber. The church had the spiritual functions, however, it was also a scene where theological disputes and the degrees took place.
