This is for all you addicted cachers out there; it’s time to
get out your IDAHO DeLorme Atlas. Break into the kid's piggy bank
to fill up the geo-rig, put your hiking boots on, and grab your
walking sticks. You’re going to explore our Great State of
Idaho. OH, you might want to take your GPSr.
In January of 2004 Haicoole unveiled the California DeLorme
Challenge and it was a sudden hit...caches in the far corners of
Calfornia started recieving more visits than ever before...
In August of 2005 SKWERL saw what was going on in Calfornia and
unveiled the Nevada DeLorme Challenge...
The next DeLorme Challenge was in Oregon By Duck-n-Deedy in
September 2005...
And also in September 2005 Moun10Bike started the Washington
DeLorme Challenge...
By now I'm sure you have figured out where I'm going with
this...and you’re right...Just when gas prices are going thru
the roof...It's here: "THE IDAHO DeLORME CHALLENGE"...
AS WITH ALL CACHES OF THIS TYPE YOU WILL NOT FIND A CONTAINER AT
THE POSTED COORDINATES...AS A MATTER OF FACT FROM TIME TO TIME I
WILL MOVE THE COORDINATES AROUND THE STATE...
The DeLorme Atlas is published for all 50 states and is a
favorite among outdoorsmen, they are available in many
locations...if you don't have one for Idaho yet you might want to
get your hands on one because completing this cache requires the
use of one...
The goal is simple: DeLorme has Idaho broken down into 52
parts...each part is on a page...To log this cache you must find a
cache in every section of the Idaho DeLorme Atlas...
Some sections may not contain a cache, you may fill the
requirement by hiding one. Remember all caches must meet the
guidelines which include no vacation caches that you cannot
maintain...
In order to claim this cache, you must first send me a file
containing all of your hides and finds. (.GPX format is preferred
or .LOC if you filter out your locationless, event and CITO caches
ahead of time for me.
At a minimum I need a list containing cache name, waypoint, and
coordinates.) I will review the list to verify your caches
finds/hides.
Once everything checks out, I will then be in contact with you
so you can sign the logbook! Please feel free to post notes and
pictures of your progress.
Attached is a map of how the state is broken down in the DeLorme
Atlas (Thank You Moun10Bike)
Attached also is a map of Moun10Bike's progress in the Idaho
Challange (Again Thank You Moun10Bike) as you can see from
Moun10Bike's progress map, most of you will already have a few of
the sections covered.
From time to time as people send me their progress I will post
their map on this page so others can see where they stand in the
challenge.
I have an awesome FTF prize to make this worth your time and
effort. The FTF prize is a hand made custom hiking staff, the
hiking staff is being built by none other than Idaho's own
DustBusters (Thank You DustBusters)...
I am also working on some other FTF prizes and will post them as
I get them rounded up.
Based on feedback from and incidents seen with DeLorme
Challenges in other states, some guidelines need to be laid
out:
1. As mentioned above, the posted coordinates are not the actual
coordinates for the cache. The actual cache may actually be quite
some distance from these coordinates! Alright I'll be honest, the
final cache consistes of a logbook that will remain in my
possession. Once you have finished the challenge and I have
verified the completion, I will make arrangements to get the
logbook to you so you can sign it.
2. Generally accepted rules, guidelines and conditions for
logging a cache find apply. These must be bona fide caches listed
on Geocaching.com that you have personally(physically) found and
logged. You may include caches found prior to the creation of the
Idaho DeLorme Challenge so long as they meet all other Challenge
requirements.
3. Placement of a cache on a DeLorme Atlas page counts the same
as finding a cache on that page. If you choose to do this, however,
you are responsible for meeting all approval and maintenance
criteria with Geocaching.com.
4. All cache types count as finds or hides for the DeLorme
Challenge with the exception of events (CITO included) and
locationless caches.
5. If a Idaho DeLorme Atlas page includes space not located in
Idaho, only caches in the Idaho portion count.
6. While you may have others with you when you find the final
cache. Only those who have fulfilled ALL criteria for this cache
will be allowed to log it as a find. Find logs by other cachers
will be deleted.
7. When in doubt ask—we can discuss it or even seek
guidance from others, but the final decision rests with the cache
owner.
8. While the various editions and versions of the DeLorme Atlas
do not seem to have changed much in terms of page boundaries, the
information in the cache owner's copy will be considered
definitive.
9. Remember that this is a game and is supposed to be fun! Many
thanks go out to Haicool for the original idea for this cache and
to the other cache owners who have taken the idea and run with it
for their own states.
