We happened along this quaint little spot and knew immediately that
A) little "i" had to get out and play and B) this place needed a
cache. Chasing bunnies around is way more fun than chasing a flock
of seagulls.
There were a few zoo workers here on lunch break and they talked
about the bunnies. They said there was no program to eradicate them
but those unfortunate enough to wander onto zoo grounds fell prey
to either the official zoo pest control officer (and they spoke of
him in hushed tones) or some large carnivore.
The sign says don't feed the rabbits .... well about 3 pm a
woman shows up with her daughter and even as they are leaving their
car the rabbits start massing around them. They laid out a blanket,
unloaded a huge food stash and proceded to serve a banquet feast to
about 100 rabbits. "Been doin' this for 8 years", the mom said. And
later - "I remember when my mom brought me here 35 years ago to
feed the rabbits." The rabbits are there to stay. Bring your little
ones, it's really fun for them.
As for the cache - it's a lock and lock box about 3 in. by 3 in.
Without a hint, this would be a 3 star hide and you'll see why.
With a hint, it's maybe 2 stars. We'll start halfway between. The
satellites simply would not cooperate during the hour we were there
(returned later with Miss K and had better luck). Please post your
coordinates if you feel they are better.
NOTE: Please, please, please be careful to return the cache
exactly as you found it. Double check that it is not visible.
Congrats to OBE for his persistence and logging the FTF!
NOTE added 9/22/05 - Have replaced cache. It is now a large
Tupperware container. It will require some strength to remove it (a
firm grip actually). Please use as much strength when returning it
to its cubbhole, else the squirrels will dislodge it (yes, that's a
hint).
