The ancient village of Compton Martin lies in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the north eastern side of the Mendip Hills. You will start at the village duck pond, the very source of the River Yeo, and stroll through the village to collect the clues. Take time to enjoy the ever changing views across the far reaching fields, the hills and woods towards the Chew Valley Lake and beyond.
You are required to find four sets of clues, two to calculate the final north coordinate of the cache location and two to work out the final west coordinate. Total distance is approx 2 miles and will take about an hour to complete. Could get muddy after rain or during the winter months, not suitable for buggies.
To find North Coordinate of cache location:
The coordinates N51° 18.636´ W002° 39.257´ above lead you to a double space parking spot next to Compton Martin village pond. At this point, find in what year the bench was presented by Charles and Edith Cranfield and put into the form ABCD.
Then at N51° 18.6 (D) (A+D)´ W002° 3(B). (D)60´ how many years was John Samuel Gibbon the Church Warden. The answer = E.
Add 00° 00.(E – A) (B) (E – D) to start point north coordinate to calculate northing for cache location.
