A few years ago, in northeastern Fairfield an extension of Manuel Campos Parkway was built through the ruins of Cement (see related web page link above), an abandoned town that existed there from 1902-1927. Just off the new road at the cache site you can see building foundations, walls, chimneys and some of the kilns that were part of that now ghost town. Prior to the recent road construction these structures were either too far from public roads or hidden by trees so you couldn’t see them. Although there is a local effort to preserve this part of our history there is also pressure to develop this land. You might want to take the opportunity to see this ghost town up close before it vanishes forever.
