In the Harry Potter books and movies, Harry is given an owl as a present. The owls are used as messengers, delivering mail and presents between witches and wizards. Harry's owl is a magnificent creature, a Snowy Owl (Nyctea scandiaca for the bird watchers amongst you). Did you know? There are over 200 different types of owls and they are found all over the world except for Antarctica. Most are active only at night but the Snowy Owl, which lives in the Arctic hunts during the day. Owls usually live alone or in pairs, but are sometimes found in groups. A group of owls is called a parliament. Owls are "birds of prey" because they feast on other animals. Similar to eagles, hawks, and falcons, they share several common features that make them great predators - with hooked beaks, sharp claws, and keen eyesight.
You will find this cache near a sanctuary for owls here in Fresno. It's an easy lunch time drive up and grab that you can pick up after eating lunch at Chuck E. Cheese's. Have fun!
