Courthouse Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Krypton: As there's been no response to my previous note, I assume that the cache is not going to be repaired or replaced, so I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us, and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it

Thanks for your cooperation!

Geocache Description:

The cache is a cylindrical container in downtown Salinas.

Please bring a pen and small items to exchange. It was hard to get a solid read on the coordinates, so we took the averages. If you are able to come up with better numbers, please post them.

This 1936 building was designed by architects Robert Stanton of Pebble Beach and Charles F. Butner of Salinas. The original courthouse designed by Levi Goodrich, build in 1879 remained in place, while this building was built up around it. The original courthouse was then dismantled brick by brick and the site became the present courtyard.

The 60 “heroic heads” on the building, which are said to represent Native Americans, Spanish soldiers, Junipero Serra, John Fremont and modern youth, were created by Jose Jacinto Mora, an Uruguayan who moved to the Monterey Peninsula in 1921.
