MikeK: Due to the Airport Fire that burned everything surrounding the cache in September 2024, access to the cache will be impossible for the foreseeable future. I will check on the cache (and replace it if needed) once the Forest Service restores access to the area.

Rating revised per the criteria discussed on the geocaching.com message boards. Access to the cache requires a 3 mile, intermediate-level hike along mountain trails, and some "off-trail" searching. Elevation change is about 1000 feet.)

This was the first cache ever placed in Orange County. This is Version 3.0, after having had a couple "disappear" over the last 2 years. The cache (updated 3/2/03) contains: USFS Cleveland Nat'l Forest Map Snow Jack Light Stick Caps Dino Magnet Jellyfish Army Man a toy jet A glow bat Donald Duck Bobble Head Shotglass Log book "The Hummer" travel bug.

Location: Holy Jim Trail, Cleveland National Forest, Orange County CA.

Directions/Comments:

From Live Oak Canyon Road, drive up Trabuco Creek (a high-clearance vehicle is needed) to the parking lot past the Holy Jim Fire Station. Take the dirt road to the left and walk past the houses to the trailhead. Follow the trail to the stash. Watch for ticks. A USFS Wilderness Adventure Pass is required.

An interesting side-note: at N33 41.594 W117 30.833 the trail forks. If you bear right and follow the creek, you'll find the Holy Jim Waterfall (N33 41.659 W117 30.959) in about 15 minutes.
