Mt Samaria Series #5
Mt Samaria is a state park located approximately 40minute drive from Benalla. The park features rocky peaks, lush bushland, waterfalls and countless impressive views. The park is the home to over 300 flora species and countless animals including the elusive lyre bird.
This series of caches will take you off track to the western faces of the park. From there, impressive views of the Strathbogies and Lake Nilllahcootie can be experienced from the countless escarpments. This series is designed as a one way hike taking you from back creek falls to young’s road which is a minimum of an 11km journey. Please be prepared for any weather conditions that may occur during your journey and although there is phone signal for the majority of the way, be aware that if you run into trouble you may be a fair while away from help.
Please pay attention to the clues left in the back page of the logs book that will help you find the final for the series. Some caches have clues, some don’t and some have ones that don’t actually help you for the final.

When I was exploring the area, I was surprised to find 2 massive waterfalls hidden in the bush. This cache takes you to the upper and smaller water fall. The falls is best viewed in winter or spring where the streams fill up and the falls will be flowing. The cache itself is located high up on the southern wall. It is suggested you make your way to the bottom of the falls before you start to climb up to the cache. Please be extremely careful as if you fall you could potentially fall about 10metres. The cache is a 200ml Sistema container hidden in a rocky gap next to a prominent tree. Please check the spoiler photo for more help.
