Beste Geocachers,

Aan alle mooie dingen komt een einde.
De "Euromast" is een project dat wij 2 jaar geleden zijn begonnen vanuit een intresse voor geoarts, en om jullie deze groene oase van rust in polder ten noorden van rotterdam te kunnen laten zien.

Helaas wordt deze rust steeds verder verstoord door de toenemende werkzaamheden in dit gebied. Hierdoor wordt de ronde steeds lastiger te onderhouden.

Vandaar dat wij helaas hebben besloten een einde te maken aan deze ronde.
Bedankt voor alle leuke logjes en favorietpunten die wij hebben mogen ontvangen!

All good things come to an end.
The "Euromast" is a project that we started 2 years ago out of an interest for geoarts, and to show you this green oasis of tranquility in the polder near Rotterdam.

Unfortunately, this tranquility is increasingly disturbed by the increasing work in this area. This makes the round increasingly difficult to maintain.

That is why we decided put an end to this series.

De afgelopen 4 weken kon je elke week iets nieuws leren over een plek in Overschie!
Deze laaste week gaat het over Oud Overschie.

Overschie is een voormalige gemeente in Zuid-Holland. De naam Overschie wordt reeds in de tiende eeuw genoemd ('Ouwer Schie'), toen het dorp een kleine nederzetting in een groot moerasgebied was.

In Overschie komen de vier wateren bij elkaar die alle vier kortweg met Schie worden aangeduid: de Delfshavense Schie, de Delftse Schie, de Rotterdamse Schie en de Schiedamse Schie. De Schie werd een belangrijke transportroute in de dertiende eeuw, toen de Schielands Hoge Zeedijk werd aangelegd tussen Vlaardingen en Gouda, waarbij twee havens werden gecreëerd bij de Schie en de Rotte. De eerste werd belangrijk voor de ontwikkeling van Overschie, de tweede voor die van Delfshaven (Delfts Haven geeft aan dat deze haven belangrijk was voor de stad Delft). De Schiedamse Schie dateert uit ca. 1250. In 1340 kreeg de stad Rotterdam toestemming om een kanaal te graven tussen het centrum en Overschie: de Rotterdamse Schie. De Delfshavense Schie werd in 1389 gegraven.

Tijdens de Hoekse en Kabeljauwse twisten kreeg Overschie het zwaar te verduren. Het lag tussen het Kabeljauwse Delft en het Hoekse Rotterdam en is afwisselend door beide partijen ingenomen, waarbij voor een klein dorp relatief veel inwoners het leven lieten. De kerk en een aantal huizen werden in 1489 in brand gestoken toen de Rotterdammers het dorp weer moesten opgeven.

Terwijl de plaatsen rond Overschie groeiden, is de plaats zelf altijd klein gebleven. Uiteindelijk is Overschie in augustus 1941 door de buurgemeente Rotterdam geannexeerd. Direct na de oorlog is de gemeente Rotterdam begonnen met de bebouwing van de Kleinpolder. Het was een pilot-project met materialen en prefab-methoden om de bouwtijd te versnellen.

Het oude Overschie is redelijk goed intact gebleven. De dorpstraat ligt bij de plek waar de vier Schieën uiteen gaan. Aan weerszijden staan historische huisjes, met als opvallendste bouwwerken het Raedthuys, de Hervormde en de Rooms-katholieke kerk. Net buiten het dorp ligt het landgoed De Tempel met een baroktuin uit de achttiende eeuw.

 For the past 4 weeks you could learn something new every week about a place in Overschie!
This last week is about Old Overschie.

Overschie is a former municipality in South Holland. The name Overschie is already mentioned in the tenth century ('Ouwer Schie'), when the village was a small settlement in a large swamp area.

In Overschie the four waters come together, all of which are simply referred to as Schie: the Delfshavense Schie, the Delftse Schie, the Rotterdamse Schie and the Schiedamse Schie. The Schie became an important transport route in the thirteenth century, when the Schielands Hoge Zeedijk was constructed between Vlaardingen and Gouda, creating two ports at the Schie and the Rotte. The first became important for the development of Overschie, the second for that of Delfshaven (Delfts Haven indicates that this port was important for the city of Delft). The Schiedamse Schie dates from around 1250. In 1340, the city of Rotterdam was given permission to dig a canal between the center and Overschie: the Rotterdamse Schie. The Delfshavense Schie was dug in 1389.

Overschie had a hard time during the Hoekse and Kabeljauwse disputes. It was situated between the Kabeljauwse Delft and the Hoekse Rotterdam and was alternately occupied by both parties, whereby a relatively large number of residents lost their lives for a small village. The church and a number of houses were set on fire in 1489 when the people of Rotterdam had to give up the village again.

While the places around Overschie grew, the place itself has always remained small. Overschie was finally annexed in August 1941 by the neighboring municipality of Rotterdam. Immediately after the war, the municipality of Rotterdam started building the Kleinpolder. It was a pilot project with materials and prefab methods to speed up construction time.

The old Overschie has remained reasonably well intact. The village street is near the place where the four Schiees separate. On both sides are historic houses, with the most striking buildings being the Raedthuys, the Hervormde and the Roman Catholic Church. Just outside the village is the De Tempel estate with a baroque garden from the eighteenth century.
