“When you said “orphan”, did you mean “orphan” – a person who has lost his parents, or “often”, frequently?!!”
This is one of our favourite lines from that great musical “Pirates of Penzance”. As it turns out, it’s also a very apt name for this cache. If you don't know the line you might enjoy this clip featuring Derek Metzger and Jon English.
The story is, I was walking along in a cache-placing mood about a year ago (ie in 2017) when I spotted something that in fact turned out to be a cache - a classic GAFF 0 (thanks pprass).
The container had been thoughtfully set up, but the logbook was blank, and there were no identifying marks of any description. I searched the GC and GCA sites and even put in a proximity check, all to no avail.
I monitored the cache off and on for signs of life, and finally on January 1, 2018 I wrote my name in the FTF spot in the cache’s logbook. Throughout the year I’ve been keeping my eye on it, but I think it’s finally time to give this often visited orphan a home, a name and a place in the world!
It would be fantastic to one day get a log from its true parents and have a reunion of sorts :)
